Fishponds Fields have been open to the public 7 days a week all year round during daylight hours since 2021.
Just 5 minutes’ walk from Tooting High Street, they are a flourishing green asset for local residents – a resource promoting physical and mental health and community well-being, as well as contributing to sustainability and biodiversity.
A range of activities run by groups, clubs and schools take place on a regular basis. Low cost fitness classes take place most weekday mornings.
Many sports clubs use the fields weekly, mostly football and cricket, but also touch rugby, hurling and lacrosse.
Local people increasingly use Fishponds Fields for informal activity and recreation – whether it be a daily walk, having a kickabout, playing in the playground or simply sitting and enjoying the sounds of birdsong. All this is a massive change from the recent past. Before 2021, the fields lay underused and mostly locked for decades.
